In 2015, my wife and I bought our home on W. Beach Court, Folly Beach. We were both elated to own the home of our dreams, but more so from the comforting welcome from our new neighbors. Skip and Sam Fink welcomed us to the neighborhood as if we were friends or even family. They were welcoming and genuine. Coming from a large family, Skip was like meeting a brother. We instantly became friends.

We came to Folly to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle, the beach and retirement. I am a civil engineer and spent my work life managing very large infrastructure projects both domestically and internationally. In my fifty years of work life, I have met some incredibly capable, organized, caring, and intelligent people. I would put Skip at the top of the list.

He is the most giving person I have ever met. He spends his time helping others and giving to the community. Skip believes in supporting family, friends, church, and community. You ask for help, he is the first one there.

I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip with Skip two years ago, to build houses for the poor in Honduras with Palmetto International. It was one of the most humbling, but rewarding experiences I have ever had. The people lived in mud houses, with old outhouses- they had nothing in the way of amenities. As a volunteer group, we bought our own tools and materials. We worked long hard days to build concrete block houses for these needy people.

Skip and I were teamed up to layout and install the walls. Although the work was hard, we could only smile due to the happiness we were giving to the family whose home we were building. It was an incredible experience for both of us. Skip had been on multiple missions before this and continues to participate.

Skip has committed his life in the support of others, starting with his military and government service, his church leadership, volunteerism, Folly Beach design board, and friendship. I count my blessings for having met him. I am proud to call him a friend.
