Having known Skip Fink for several years now, I can confidently attest to his unwavering commitment to serving our community. Skip's dedication to supporting veterans and organizations like the Warrior Surf Foundation is commendable. As a Vietnam veteran and a board member of the Warrior Surf Foundation, Skip brings a unique perspective and firsthand understanding of the challenges our servicemen and women face.

Through his involvement with the Warrior Surf Foundation, Skip has demonstrated his genuine care for our veterans' well-being. He has provided veterans with opportunities to find healing and camaraderie through surfing, empowering them to overcome challenges and embrace life after service.

In addition to his support for veterans, Skip demonstrates a deep understanding of the needs and concerns of our community. His approach to public service is rooted in inclusivity and collaboration, making him a valuable asset to any organization. Skip Fink's integrity, compassion, and dedication make him an effective and respected community member.

I have been a resident and property owner on Folly Beach since June 1992. Eleven years ago, Skip and Sam Fink moved onto our street and immediately became fully integrated into the culture and community of our quiet little street. Whether it was greeting new neighbors, hosting, participating in a neighborhood gathering, or discussing Folly Beach issues on dog walks, Skip and Sam were “all in”.

Skip has done a thorough job on his website listing his credentials for a position with Folly Beach City Council; however, I would like to take it a “step further” and talk about the person that I know as my neighbor “from three doors down”. With my 40 years of service to Charleston County School District, and the last 21 years as a middle school principal on James Island, I can spot a strong leader. Skip will listen to all sides of an issue and then let you know what he thinks. If he needs to gather more data to plan, he will tell you. He won’t tell you what he thinks you want to hear, and you can trust his responses.

Skip is a consensus builder and knows the steps to guide that process. He is polished, professional and sincere. He is a smart man who has a wealth of knowledge on lots of topics and I am in awe of his depth and breadth of knowledge. When I think of someone who can lead and guide the residents of Folly Beach through our current and future issues, I know that I can trust Skip Fink as a man of strong character and commitment…And when I think of the person that I want to sit up front in the Council Chambers representing all residents of this Island, Skip is that person.

Although I am a resident of Charleston, not Folly Beach, leadership skills, character and personal ideals transcend geography and are vital characteristics of those whom we elect to serve as our public officials in any location.

I have had the privilege of knowing Skip Fink for 9 years, as fellow members of a civic organization. Skip is a person of integrity, and I have had multiple opportunities to witness his leadership skills, his ability to interact and work well with others, as well as his interest in community engagement and community service, including his personal participation in service projects giving back to our community.

His many years of dedicated service to our nation in the Marine Corps exemplify the ideal of service above self, and Skip has carried this ideal into his personal life, professional endeavors, and leadership roles. I have also noted his dedication to supporting veterans, and he has effectively served as the Veterans Committee Chair for our civic organization for many years.

Leadership, character, integrity, ability to communicate effectively and work with others, and dedicated service to the local community and beyond – these are traits we seek in our elected
leaders. As such, it is a privilege to recommend Skip Fink as a candidate for Folly Beach City Council.

As a 20-year member of our church, I can say unequivocally that Skip Fink is deeply committed to the fabric of Folly’s community and family.

I have seen Skip roll up his sleeves on countless occasions to ensure that Folly Beach remains a community of people who care for "the Edge", not just live here. His work to balance the needs of our small growing island church within the constraints of our nonprofit budget is always thoughtful, thorough, and transparent.

Working alongside Skip as we built homes with families in rural western Honduras showed me first-hand that he is used to working tirelessly to address the needs of all people - by connecting with them personally, and by ensuring resources are available to enhance communities of all shapes and sizes.

What sets Skip apart and will make him an indispensable member of City Council are his hands-on commitment, his genuine and active engagement with Folly's residents, and his practical approach to finding solutions.

I am grateful to have Skip as a friend, honored to work with and learn from him in leadership, and hopeful that the community will soon have that same opportunity.

In 2015, my wife and I bought our home on W. Beach Court, Folly Beach. We were both elated to own the home of our dreams, but more so from the comforting welcome from our new neighbors. Skip and Sam Fink welcomed us to the neighborhood as if we were friends or even family. They were welcoming and genuine. Coming from a large family, Skip was like meeting a brother. We instantly became friends.

We came to Folly to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle, the beach and retirement. I am a civil engineer and spent my work life managing very large infrastructure projects both domestically and internationally. In my fifty years of work life, I have met some incredibly capable, organized, caring, and intelligent people. I would put Skip at the top of the list.

He is the most giving person I have ever met. He spends his time helping others and giving to the community. Skip believes in supporting family, friends, church, and community. You ask for help, he is the first one there.

I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip with Skip two years ago, to build houses for the poor in Honduras with Palmetto International. It was one of the most humbling, but rewarding experiences I have ever had. The people lived in mud houses, with old outhouses- they had nothing in the way of amenities. As a volunteer group, we bought our own tools and materials. We worked long hard days to build concrete block houses for these needy people.

Skip and I were teamed up to layout and install the walls. Although the work was hard, we could only smile due to the happiness we were giving to the family whose home we were building. It was an incredible experience for both of us. Skip had been on multiple missions before this and continues to participate.

Skip has committed his life in the support of others, starting with his military and government service, his church leadership, volunteerism, Folly Beach design board, and friendship. I count my blessings for having met him. I am proud to call him a friend.
